What we ate on Friday

Holy crap, I am so tired I can't move. It's raining outside today, and I think that is contributing to dragging me down. I haven't been all that hungry lately either. Eating less than usual. I hope I'm not getting sick or something.

I went to the dentist yesterday for another filling. It wasn't as bad as the last one, but it cost a little more. I took a complimentary bag of pretzels home for Winter.

I picked up a few last things to get us through Sunday. I'll have to check the receipt when i get home but I spent around $5.50. I bought bread, bananas, a box of protein bars, a single Zone Perfect bar which was the free Friday download, and small amounts of cayenne pepper and dehydrated onion.

For dinner I made chicken and broccoli with pearl couscous and hot pepper cheese sauce. It looked like tapioca pudding with chicken and vegetables. It tasted fine, but I not think I would make it again. The appearance was a little too off putting.

Breakfast: vanilla Petite Creme with raspberry jam mixed in
Lunch: leftover alphabet vegetable soup
Dinner: chicken, broccoli, couscous, and cheese sauce
Snacks/desserts: two protein bars
Beverages: water

I am not sure what I will be cooking tonight, but I am leaning toward chili. I have canned tomatoes and those two cans of beans, and I need to use up the rest of the turkey sausage. I think we even still have some sour cream.

Wednesday and Thursday

I have been trying for a while to update our total spending in the sidebar, but blogger is acting up, at least on the tablet. Will have to remember to do it tomorrow.

Yesterday Winter had Freshman orientation at her high school all day. She got her schedule and locker, had her school pics taken, got her ID, and got to know some of the other students. They provided pizza for lunch, and she got a school t-shirt with her class year on the back. For the fall semester she will be taking:

Honors Biology
Honors Geometry
Honors 9th grade Language Arts
Honors World History
Health Education
Spanish 3

Next semester will be the same, except she will be taking the 9th grade PE class instead of health. It's a pretty demanding courseload. High school is very different from when I attended. It's like a completely different language now.

It was unbearably hot yesterday. I spent way too much on cold things to eat and drink. I regret nothing. I carried a water bottle with me, but honestly it got warm too quickly and was not all that refreshing.

While Winter was at school I went for a lengthy walk with my friend, Joel. We stopped at QFC where I bought a can of black beans and a can of pinto beans from the scratch and dent section for $.49 each. We stopped at McDonald's and got vanilla cones which cost $2.83 with tax.

After I picked Winter up from school we stopped at the drug store and got sodas. I got Jeremy and I each a can, and a 20 oz for Winter. We spent $4.10 there. Later that evening Jeremy and I walked to QFC again to get cat litter, and we spent $1.00 on a sugar free sparkling water which we shared on the way home.

Today I had to leave work a couple hours early to go to Winter's school for the Freshman parent's orientation. It was somewhat useful. I still don't really understand the language. Many of the parents there were a good 15-20 years older than me, so I can only imagine how they must feel.

Jeremy talked to a non-profit group that does free after school crossfit classes, and is planning to try to volunteer. I also asked a lot of questions about opportunities for drama extracurriculars. Winter is planning to try out for the fall school play. They also do a musical in the spring, but you have to take the class, which she wouldn't be able to do without dropping Spanish. She's not as much into singing and dancing anyway.

Last night we made a huge pot of veggie alphabet soup for dinner, and had 22 cups left over. We froze most of it for future quick meals.

Wednesday's food:

Breakfast: strawberry Petite Creme with sliced banana
Lunch: skipped
Dinner: veggie alphabet soup, buttermilk bread
Snacks/desserts: vanilla soft serve cone, snickerdoodle ice cream
Beverages: water, cherry Coke, sugar free sparkling water

Winter had cereal for breakfast and pizza for lunch at school.

Thursday's food:

Breakfast: oatmeal with berries, half and half, and brown sugar
Lunch: blueberry Petite Creme with sliced banana, leftover alphabet veggie soup
Dinner: Kraft homestyle Mac and cheese (made by Winter)
Snacks/desserts: protein bar
Beverages: water

Winter had leftover pizza for breakfast and cereal with milk for lunch.

Jeremy met me after work and we walked to QFC. We bought pretty much everything else we'll need to get us through the end of the month. Yesterday I worked at the airport early in the morning. I had to get up at 6 am after getting home around 11 with Winter, and not getting to bed until after midnight. Winter made some raspberry jam and brought a jar with her, so I had that on my sandwich for lunch. Winter helped me make a pizza from scratch for dinner. I mixed some garlic and Italian seasoning into a little bit of the turkey sausage from the freezer to top it with.

Breakfast: vanilla Petite Creme
Lunch: peanut butter sandwich with Winter's homemade raspberry jam, banana
Dinner: pizza topped with mozzarella, green bell peppers, and Italian seasoned turkey sausage.
Snacks: snickerdoodle ice cream with goat milk caramel sauce
Beverages, iced coffee with simple syrup and cream, water, Coke Zero

For the big surprise I took Jeremy and Winter to see To Be Takei at the SIFF Cinema Uptown in Queen Anne. They are both huge fans of George Takei. It was a really great documentary. I cried a couple of times. It's about his relationship with Brad, his experience in the Japanese American internment camp during WWII, and his acting career, plus his political and social activism. Winter was the only one there who wasn't an adult, which was kind of funny to me. I think this movie was pretty appropriate for pre-teens on up at least.

Our only spending yesterday was on an iced coffee for me at the airport, which was $3.00 with tax and tip, and on a large Coke Zero at the theater. A jaw-dropping $5.50. I am sort of fine with that though since it is a small independent local theater.

Where has the time gone?

Meals on Saturday were more or less a repeat of Friday. Except I stopped at the store and bought a doughnut for breakfast ($.89), and one the way home I got a box of pretzel thins and some mixed fruit preserves ($2.50 and $2.99 respectively)

Breakfast: cream filled doughnut
Lunch: tuna sandwich, banana
Dinner: leftover fish chowder
Snacks/desserts: pretzel thins topped with PB and fruit preserves, protein bar
Beverages: chocolate milk, water

Yesterday Jeremy made dinner. He used up the last of the picante sauce with some chicken, rice, and sour cream he bought ($1.25). Was good.

Breakfast: chocolate milk
Lunch: leftover fish chowder, banana
Dinner: picante chicken with rice and sour cream
Snacks/desserts: pretzel thins, protein bar
Beverages: water, sugar free drink

Winter arrives tonight! I work from 11-5, and will come home to cook dinner. Jeremy is off today so I think I'll have him meet up with me at work so we can run to the store. We have some food left, but not really the right things to put together without adding something we don't have. We need fruits and veggies mostly. After dinner I'll take the train to the airport and collect my child. Who, based on a recent Facebook photo, will have rainbow colored hair.

I am working early in the morning on Tuesday, which will be a little rough after being up late picking her up at the airport, but I was able to trade for a slightly later start time at least. And Tuesday evening I have a surprise in store for my lovely family. ;)
