Cooking all day Wednesday

Wednesday my parents got here around 1:30. I went to the store in the morning to get some last minute things. I got a half gallon of whole milk for $1.99, a pint tub of sour cream for $1.50, vanilla ice cream for $2.79, and a can of diced jalapenos for $.79.

We were planning on chicken tacos for dinner Wednesday night, so first thing I got some black beans cooking in the crock pot with the can of jalapenos. Then I made dough for rolls. I used the last of the 2% milk, honey, yeast, white flour, olive oil, and salt. I let it rise a few times, increased it a few times, and Jeremy brushed them with melted honey butter before we baked them.

After mom and dad arrived mom helped make a Dutch apple pie totally from scratch. Dutch apple pie has a struesel like topping made from butter, flour, and sugar.

For dinner we used the free jar of tomatillo cooking sauce we got on Friday with some chicken breast cut into chunks for the taco filling. We also made corn tortillas out of corn flour, vegetable oil, and water, and then fried them in oil. Making corn tortillas is not as easy as I had guessed it would be. They did not hold up very well to folding, and were not very round, but holy crap they tasted amazing.

We also had the tacos with plain brown rice, chili garlic cheddar, the last bits of lettuce (living lettuce lasts forever in the fridge, especially the middle leaves), and sour cream. The beans turned out super spicy, but adding a spoonful to the taco instead of eating them alone made the heat much more palatable. I have to say it was one of the tastiest meals I have had in a while. Even better our Thanksgiving dinner. I may make corn tortillas again just to have that experience once more.

We went to see Interstellar after dinner since I had a movie gift card I got a few months ago from work. I bought another one off of Raise.com for about 10% off too. We spent about $35 for five tickets, instead of $62.50. Dad brought three packages of Red Vines because he cannot go to a movie without Red Vines. He also bought us a huge Sprite to share. Winter shared some Jolly Rancher lollipops she bought. She really liked them and went back to QFC to purchase another bag with her allowance.

The bad thing is I was so busy cooking on Wednesday that I forgot to eat breakfast or lunch. I planned to have leftover lentils, but I just spaced it. I ate some peppermint and chocolate sandwich cookies my parents brought with them, dinner, and snacks at the movie.

Breakfast: skipped
Lunch: skipped
Dinner: chicken tacos
Snacks/desserts: Red Vines, lollipops, sandwich cookies
Beverages: Sprite, water, Crystal Light

Sunday and Monday

Sunday didn't go well. It started out fine. Jeremy decided to try acupuncture, so we went together in the morning. When we came home Winter wanted to watch The Devil Wears Prada. I made pepperoni and cheese stuffed breadsticks for lunch. Then I started getting pain in the area of my gallbladder.

I have had gallbladder pain before, but usually after eating a really large, really high fat meal. The breadsticks I made were pretty low in fat though, made with turkey pepperoni, and just one thin layer of cheddar cheese. And the amount I ate wasn't large, by any means. I took a couple doses of Aleve, and eventually it went away, but not until around 8:30pm. So I wasted most of the day, in too much pain to do anything. I had planned to cook dinner and make banana bread, but didn't.

Jeremy bought me a 7-up from the soda machine in the laundry room for 75 cents, and some Reese's pieces for $1.00.

Breakfast: protein granola (I think this was one of the items I forgot I purchased at Grocery Outlet) with milk, coffee flavored Greek yogurt
Lunch: cheese and pepperoni stuffed breadsticks
Dinner: smoothie with peanut butter, chocolate protein powder, milk and frozen banana
Snacks/desserts: Reese's Pieces
Beverages: 7-up, water

Monday I still felt kind of crummy. I went in to work a few hours late, and was busy the whole time I was there, so I skipped lunch. Jeremy met me there and on the way home we bought a turkey breast for $15.55 and $.70 worth of powdered ginger. I made stir fried chicken and veggies with soba noodles for dinner. The sauce had plum preserves, chili garlic sauce, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, and rice vinegar. It turned out real good.

After dinner I made some sorbet with the Yonanas machine with bananas, strawberries, and blackberries.

Breakfast: scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese
Lunch: skipped
Dinner: stir fry with chicken, bell pepper, carrot, celery, and soba noodles with a spicy plum ginger glaze
Snacks/desserts: a few bites of Dannon cherry cheesecake dessert, strawberry banana blackberry Yonanas
Beverages: water

Thursday and Friday

I have not been feeling so great, so there will be a few skipped meals here and there. Thursday we bought not food. Friday we picked up some Herdez tomatillo cooking sauce which was the free Friday download. We also bought a bag of three reduced apples and a bag of three reduced bell peppers, for 99 cents each. We plan to use the apples in a pie for Thanksgiving. I didn't want to waste honeycrisps on that.

Thursday night Jeremy had to go to the emergency room. In the space of 24 hours his right little toe went from perfectly fine and healthy with no broken skin, to severely infected. We were at the ER until 2:30 am. He went to his regular doctor on Friday and hopefully we caught it early enough. He won't be able to get his transplant with an active  infection so, I am hoping this doesn't blow up into something worse.

Thursday:

Breakfast: coffee Greek yogurt
Lunch: peanut butter and jelly sandwich, honeycrisp apple, Clementine
Dinner: leftover lentils with tomatoes and carrots, and brown rice
Snacks/desserts: black licorice, lollipop, snickerdoodle
Beverages: water

Friday:

Breakfast: huckleberry yogurt
Lunch: leftover lentils
Dinner: skipped
Snacks/desserts: lollipops
Beverages: instant coffee with coconut creamer, water

We decided to get rid of our giant beanbag couch, and we ordered a new sofa bed on Monday. My mom and dad are coming Wednesday and staying through Friday morning, and I wanted something more comfortable for them to sleep on. They delivered the sofa on Friday.

Grocery Outlet on Wednesday

Well, this is wonderful. I went to Grocery Outlet on Wednesday, but I cannot find the receipt anywhere. It's not in the normal place I put it, or anywhere else. Grr. I spent about $39 and I will try to remember as much as I can:

1 lb of butter
Package of Crisco sticks
3 bottles of sparkling apple cider
Mild cheddar cheese slices
Honey goat cheese log
Peanut butter sandwich cookies
Two peanut butter Twix bars
Can of orange creme Shasta
Six bottles of Mio
Ten Greek yogurts in various flavors
Large bottle of olive oil
Chocolate pastry crisps
2 lbs clementines

Ugh. I know there was more, but I can't remember.

I worked Wednesday morning until 2pm, and started some pizza dough when I got home. We let the dough rise while Winter and I went to Grocery Outlet. They had a bunch of pre-viewed DVDs there, two for $2.99. She bought The Devil Wears Prada and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. We split a Twix bar on the way home, and the orange soda.

When we got home I made three individual pizzas with turkey pepperoni, green bell pepper, and sliced black olives. I did not put any olives on Jeremy's. We also had salad with lettuce, sliced cucumber and dressing.

Breakfast: skipped
Lunch: sandwich with deli chicken, lettuce, and mustard, honeycrisp apple
Dinner: pizza with pepperoni, peppers and olives, salad with cucumber and spicy ranch dressing
Snacks/desserts: snickerdoodle, lollipop, black licorice, peanut butter Twix
Beverages: water, orange creme soda
