Halloween, and October wrap-up

Winter dressed up as the Cake song, Short Skirt Long Jacket for Halloween. I guess all of her school friends were familiar with the song, despite the fact that it was popular when I was in high school. She went to her art class, and only two other kids showed up.

They always have sandwiches there for this kid's, and since it was a quiet night they had a ton of sandwiches left over, so they told Winter to take as many as she wanted. She brought home five of them. They are the Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches, and some of them are chicken, and some tofu. They are actually really really good. I told Winter if they have leftovers again she should bring me one. I hung out at work until she was done with class, and took my food with me.

On the way home we went to QFC and bought $.82 worth of broccoli, one banana for $.23 and a Yoplait Greek yogurt which was the Free Friday Download. That brings the total spent for the month of October to $389.25 which is $.75 under budget. Damn. I could have bought two more bananas.

Breakfast: cereal and milk
Lunch: banana, and peach flavored Yogurt
Dinner: Campbell's cheeseburger soup, honeycrisp apple, strawberry pastry crisp
Snacks/desserts: Halloween candy, half a tofu banh mi
Beverages: coffee with vanilla flavored coconut milk creamer, water

I got buns, hon'

Anaconda has been getting a lot of play in our house recently. Though, I think I may be the only one who actually likes it. Winter found an animated parody on YouTube that is an educational song about anacondas, which she quite enjoys. It's not exactly appropriate for children either, but it's much funnier that way.

We had black bean burgers for dinner tonight, and I sprang for the whole wheat buns this time. The regular ones were $1.25 and the whole wheat were $1.49. Was worth it. For some reason I feel like veggie burgers are just better with whole wheat. Meat burgers are better with white buns. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. I also got a carton of coffee flavored Dreyer's ice cream on sale for $2.50.

Breakfast: banana and chocolate flavored Greek yogurt
Lunch: sandwich with turkey, provolone, lettuce and dijon, banana, strawberry pastry crisps
Dinner: black bean burger on whole wheat bun with lettuce and dijon, steamed frozen veggie blend
Snacks/desserts: coffee ice cream with goat milk caramel
Beverages: water, Crystal Light

Tuesday and Wednesday

Tuesday I worked my regular shift at the airport. On the way home I went to QFC and bought a pack of 8 hot dog buns for $1.00, and three bananas for $.77. We currently have a little over $5 to last until Friday.

We had the chicken hot dogs I got at Grocery Outlet for $.44 for dinner, and salad made with some lettuce and cucumber that were starting to go a bit witty. I put some four pepper goat cheese in mine too.

After dinner Winter and I made a red velvet cake from a boxed mix. We only had two eggs and it called for three, so I added an extra tablespoon of oil and it turned out fine. We used the Halloween Funfetti frosting on it. It's not the most attractive cake, but it tastes good.

Breakfast: chocolate flavored cream top yogurt
Lunch: peanut butter and honey sandwich, honeycrisp apple, chocolate chip granola bar
Dinner: chicken hot dogs, salad with lettuce, cucumbers, goat cheese and raspberry walnut dressing
Snacks/desserts: red velvet cake
Beverages: water, Crystal Light

Today Winter's school had another "take your parent to school day" and she wanted me to come with her again. It was an early dismissal day, so we got done at 11:50. I waited too long to get some food together, so I suppose it's a good thing I wasn't very hungry today. I think I had too much cake last night.

After school I got a massage from a coworker I trade with once a month, and Winter and I also went to the hospital (that is conveniently located three blocks from our apartment) to visit my uncle, who had surgery on Monday.

When we got home I made pizza crust using the recipe on the bag of flour. It has flour, yeast, honey, olive oil, water and salt. I find it to be a pretty easy crust to make, and it rises nicely if you have time to let it sit. I made three individual pizzas and topped them with Italian seasoned tomato sauce, turkey pepperoni, and mozzarella cheese. Jeremy added a little pesto jack to his too. We also had the same salad as last night again.

Breakfast: banana
Lunch: peach flavored Yogurt
Dinner: pepperoni pizza, salad with lettuce, cucumbers, goat cheese, and balsamic dressing
Snacks/desserts: red velvet cake
Beverages: Crystal Light

Sunday Assembly

On Sunday I took the morning off at work and took Winter to Sunday Assembly. It was just started up in Seattle last month, the last Sunday of September, and is held once a month. It's basically a church-like gathering for non-believers. There were quite a few kids there, but they were all a lot younger than Winter. I couldn't get Jeremy to go.

For this month's service, they invited a clinical psychologist to speak, who talked about solution based thinking, vs. problem based thinking. And we sang a couple of songs. After next weekend I'll be changing one of my days off to Sunday, and Winter and I are planning to go back. They also plan some varying social events in between services, but I don't know whether we'll be able to attend any.

We didn't spend anything on food on Sunday.

Breakfast: glazed cake style donut
Lunch: sandwich with cream cheese, turkey, and lettuce, apple, strawberry pastry crisps
Dinner: leftover meat pasta sauce from freezer with tomato penne
Snacks/desserts: donuts
Beverages: spiced apple cider (at Sunday Assembly), water

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday

Thursday we didn't purchase any food. Jeremy cooked some seasoned quinoa and grilled some chicken, and I had a salad when I got home form work.

Dinner: salad with red leaf lettuce, grilled chicken, radishes, quinoa, four pepper goat cheese, and balsamic vinaigrette

Friday night Winter had art class, so I took extra food with me and ate at work while waiting for her class to get out. I also got a piece of pumpkin cheesecake at Roy Street Coffee for $5.48 total. On our way back from class we stopped at QFC for bread, and Winter wanted to get a dozen day old doughnuts for $2.50. We spent $5 total. Jeremy also spent $1 on a protein bar, and $1 on a sugar free sparkling water.

Breakfast: berry breakfast shake, granola bar
Lunch: Campbell's cheeseburger soup, honeycrisp apple, mango orange flavored Mediterranean yogurt
Dinner: leftover broccoli potato cheese soup, salad with lettuce, quinoa, four pepper goat cheese, radishes, and balsamic vinaigrette
Snacks/desserts: pumpkin cheesecake, maple bar doughnut

Saturday Winter and Jeremy met me after work. Jeremy had already eaten, but we stopped at Panera Bread on the way home for dinner for Winter and I. I got a turkey sandwich with avocado, a French baguette on the side, and a soft drink. Winter got a cup of chicken noodle soup, a half macaroni and cheese, and a French baguette. She and Jeremy both got soft drinks too, and Winter and I each had a cookie. We spent $26.40 there total.

On the way home we stopped at QFC and bought:

1/2 gallon milk $1.99
2 protein bars ($1.00 each) $2.00
Canned chicken alfredo pasta (RFQS) $.49
11 oz. can of Jumex apple nectar (RFQS) $.49
Rock Star energy drink $1.99

total $6.96

We'll need to be fairly careful for the next week until Friday. We will need to be conscious of using what we have. There is a ton of spaghetti sauce in the freezer, a ton of pasta, and some salad things, so we can start with that.

Breakfast: glazed doughnut ring
Lunch: leftover seasoned quinoa, honeycrisp apple, mango orange flavored Mediterranean yogurt, strawberry pastry crisps
Dinner: turkey sandwich with avocado, French baguette
Snacks/desserts: chocolate duet cookie with walnuts
Beverages: water, half diet Pepsi mixed with half regular Pepsi
