Homecoming 2014

Winter had her high school homecoming dance tonight from 9pm to 12am. I had thought she was going to skip her art class tonight, but she decided to go to the first half of it and then go to the dance after. Luckily she said she was advised by several people not to dress up a lot, so this took going home in between to change out of the equation. She wore the headband and used the small handbag we had bought on Wednesday, but will save the fancy dress for another time. She wore a circle skirt from the 50's that used to belong to my mom's aunt, I believe.

This was a change in plans for me too, because it meant I was going to stay at work until 8, take her to the dance, then walk back home. The dance was three miles away from her art class, so we decided to wait for a bus rather than walk it. I didn't get home until almost 9:30, so rather than waiting until I got home to eat we stopped at the grocery store before waiting for the bus to the dance. Winter had not eaten much either aside from a few snacks after school.

We bought two Odwalla bars for $1.00 each, an apple for Winter for $1.22, a banana for me for $.25, and a package of Skittles for $.50 which we shared.

I ate a frozen entree when I got home, and waited for the dance to finish so I could go pick her up. The buses had quit running by then, so we walked the mile back home.

She says she is all "tired and sweaty" in this picture.
Here is what I ate today:

Breakfast: banana bread with peanut butter
Lunch: last of the leftover veggie alphabet soup, banana, apple, bagel with cream cheese and smoked turkey
Dinner: Odwalla bar, banana, frozen entree of veggie pot stickers and fried rice
Snacks/desserts: raspberry cranberry Greek yogurt, Skittles
Beverages: water

Winter said she packed dried cranberries, crackers, a granola bar, and apple sauce for her lunch, and after school she had more dried cranberries, cashews, and a cup of pineapple tidbits.

A really long Thursday

Thursday I had an appointment at a nearby massage school for a student clinic session right after work. This school only does student clinic sessions every few months, but they only cost $10 so I jump on it when I can. Afterwards I went to the grocery store. I left before 10 am and didn't get back until 10pm.

I set up the crock pot before I left with 1 1/2 cups of dried pinto beans, which I had started soaking the night before, 1 can of petite diced tomatoes, 1/2 a green bell pepper, chopped, and 3 turkey sausages, sliced. The turkey sausages gave it plenty of flavor so no other seasonings were added. After leaving for work I realized my lunch was going to be a bit light for the long day ahead of me. so I stopped at QFC and bought two hard boiled eggs for $1.99 and a banana for $.25.

After my massage session I went to QFC to pick up more bread, milk, fruit and veggies, and some really good sale items: fancy pasta and Greek yogurt. I got three lbs of cavatappi, two lbs of fettucini, and one pound of another kind of noodle I had never seen before. Cavatappi makes the best macaroni and cheese. I may go buy more of just that one before the sale is over, because it's usually way more than I am willing to spend.

A little over 4 lbs of honeycrisp apples $10.63
6 lbs of assorted pasta shapes ($.79 ea) $4.74
6 flavored Greek yogurts ($.39 ea) $2.34
2 1/2 lbs of bananas $1.80
1/2 gallon 2% milk $1.50
Buttermilk bread $2.79
1 1/3 lbs broccoli $1.30

Total spent $29.10

What I ate:

Breakfast: banana bread, coffee flavored Greek yogurt
Lunch: leftover veggie alphabet soup, two hard boiled eggs, banana bread, carrot sticks with hummus, banana
Dinner: pinto beans with turkey sausage, tomatoes, and peppers
Snacks/desserts: champagne grapes
Beverages: water

Going to the dentist sucks

This morning I went to the dentist again to get my last filling done, and have impressions taken for my partial. The first impression did not turn out right, so it had to be redone, and both times I gagged on the trays badly. And for the filling they had to go back in and do more painkiller injections four times after the first one, because I continued to be able to feel the drill. I wasn't able to feel or move my mouth normally until after five pm. Thank goodness that eventually I was not able to feel the drill so they could finish. At least I got another free bag of pretzels out of the deal. I gave them to Winter.

This afternoon I used four of the old bananas we bought recently to make banana bread. I use this recipe but I reduce the sugar to half a cup and skip the salt. I also added a teaspoon of vanilla this time. It turns out nice and moist as long as you are careful not to over mix or over bake it. I also like to wrap it in tin foil while it's still cooling so the crust is moist also. That makes it much easier to cut, and you can get thinner slices.

Winter did not get a part in the main fall play at school so today she stayed after to audition for a series of shorter plays. After she got home I took her to Ross to get her a bra that will work with her homecoming dress, and also got her a cute headband with a bow, and a small shoulder bag so she can keep her phones and wallet on her, but not have to hang onto them all night. We spent about $27 there so including the dress her homecoming outfit was $37 before tax. She is going to borrow a pair of my shoes since we wear the same size. We also spent $.59 on a bag of candy corn flavored M&M's at Walgreen' s  We shared.

Breakfast: English muffin with cream cheese, coffee flavored Greek yogurt
Lunch: leftover veggie alphabet soup, nine grain bread with butter
Dinner: chicken stir fried with carrots and celery, with white rice and teriyaki sauce
Snacks/desserts: candy corn M&M's, banana bread, raspberries  and champagne grapes
Beverages: water

Winter took a Lunchable and a yogurt for lunch today. I'm not sure what she ate for breakfast, but she also had some banana bread when she got home.

Jeremy was awake until after midnight last night with a bad headache and he kept vomiting. This is the second time it has happened in two weeks. I guess he'll have to ask his doctor about it.

A Busy Tuesday

Yesterday I worked a mid day shift at the airport and afterwards I had to head straight to Winter's school for a PTSA meeting. I tried to pack as much as I could to eat because I didn't get home until after 8:30. I also had a bag of pretzels in my purse I had gotten for free at the dentist on Monday, and I ate those.

I packed Winter's lunch with Triscuits, hummus, champagne grapes, applesauce, and a granola bar. She always takes her water bottle as well.

For breakfast I microwaved some oats and water with a handful of white chocolate chips and a handful of raspberries. After cooking it I just stirred it all together. I tasted the raspberries  more than the white chocolate, but the white chocolate gave it some nice sweetness.

I fell back asleep after eating breakfast and didn't wake up until 22 minutes after I usually leave. CRAP!! Somehow I still managed to only be 6 minutes late for work, but I am normally there at least 20 minutes early.

Breakfast: white chocolate raspberry oatmeal
Lunch: celery and hummus, bagel with cream cheese and smoked turkey, protein bar
Dinner: leftover veggie alphabet soup from the freezer
Snacks/desserts: blackberry Greek yogurt, champagne grapes, dentist pretzels, cereal and milk
Beverages: water

Monday night pizza!

Yesterday was a day off, something I am trying to make sure happens more often. Jeremy and I had dentist appointments in the morning. His was just an exam and x-rays. I had a filling. I'm going back tomorrow for my last filling, and they are going to take impressions for my partial.

In the early afternoon I had my second acupuncture appointment. This time I fell asleep for a short time, but I still moved around a lot. One of the needles fell out. Last time two fell out. I don't know how everyone else stays so still for an hour. I can't do it.

After I got home from the acupuncturist I started my pizza dough and let it rise in the warmed up over for a few hours. I made a traditional pizza sauce with garlic and Italian seasoning, and for toppings I used two of the reduced fat turkey sausages sliced into disks, half of a big green bell pepper, cut into strips, the last little bit of mozzarella we had left, and I shredded up some jalapeno havarti. The jalapeno havarti wasn't too spicy, it mainly just had a jalapeno flavor to it, which worked well on pizza. It turned out great and we ate the whole thing.

Breakfast: fried egg and slice of cheddar cheese on a toasted English muffin
Lunch: smoothie with frozen banana, a frozen Greek yogurt tube, raspberries, milk, and peanut butter
Dinner: pizza with turkey sausage, green bell pepper, and cheese
Snacks/desserts: protein bar, Smart Ones peanut butter cup Sunday
Beverages: water, sparkling water
