What we ate 08-08-14

For dinner last night I combined around a cup of dried red lentils with one 14 oz can of dice  tomatoes, 1 can of water, two cups of raw spinach, 2 t ginger, 1/2 T garlic, 1 T dried onion, 1 t curry powder. I cooked it on high heat until the spinach was cooked and the lentils were tender and served it over white rice. It turned out well.

Breakfast: coconut Greek yogurt, strawberry coffee cake
Lunch: tuna salad, celery, banana
Dinner: lentils with tomatoes and spinach, rice
Snacks/desserts: Greek yogurt tubes, protein bar
Beverages: water, Crystal Light

What I ate 08-07-14

Yesterday did not go exactly as planned. I went to the dentist at 8 am to get a tooth filled. They would up having to give me two extra shots of lidocaine. The right side of my mouth was pretty much paralyzed until after 2pm, and even then it was still numb for a few more hours.

I had brought some yogurt and a banana, but wasn't feeling it with my mouth being so numb. I bought a chocolate milk and had that instead. By the time I was ready to leave work around 4pm I felt like eating solid food again. My boss had some red grapes and told me to have some, so I did and just used the left side of my mouth.

When I got to my ethics class at 5 I realized I had left my tuna salad at home in the fridge. I went to Walgreens and spent $1.78 on a small bag of cashews and some gummy candies. By around 7 I finally regained all the feeling in my mouth.

Breakfast: chocolate milk
Lunch: coconut yogurt, peanut butter and honey sandwich, banana
Dinner: pretzels (grabbed a complimentary bag at the dentist), celery, nectarine, protein bar, cashews
Snacks/desserts: strawberry coffee cake, grapes, cinnamon cookie, gummy candy
Beverages: water

Going to Texas, work stuff, and an update on the plants

I talked to my mom tonight and she will be in Texas for the family reunion from Oct 7-14. Most of the rest of the family gets there on the 8th. I don't want Winter missing too much school, and since I will be in San Diego from the 1st through the 6th, missing a lot of work is also a concern. So we'll be going down the morning of the 11th, and coming back the evening of the 13th. The tickets cost $888 for all three of us. On the upside, there will be nothing  to spend money on once we are there, because we will be in the middle of nowhere.

Jeremy has been looking for an internship/job as a personal trainer. He has contacted a few places already and is planning to apply at Gold's Gym on Broadway as well. He'd like to work a couple of evenings a week and Sundays, in addition to his regular job,  which he works at very early in the day Tues-Sat.

A rare opening came up for a mid day shift on Tuesdays at the airport. It starts in the middle of September. I decided to take it. I am also working 8 extra hours per week at my regular job since the first of August. Hopefully that won't be too much to be sustainable.

Mom said I should dig up the potatoes since the plants were drying out. I got 7 hamster sized potatoes. I think I just planted them too late, but out wasn't a very big planter box either. The radish plants all bolted then died. The carrots and beets are still tiny and sad. I have officially given up on them.

What we ate 08-05-14 and 08-06-14, plus a little grocery shopping

08-05-14

Breakfast: oatmeal with white chocolate peanut butter and dried cranberries, strawberry coffee cake
Lunch: sandwich with turkey, cracked black pepper cheese and dijon mustard, nectarine
Dinner: leftover black beans and rice topped with shredded cheese
Snacks/desserts: protein bar, Butterfinger ice cream
Beverages: Crystal Light, water

08-06-14

Breakfast: strawberry coffee cake
Lunch: white chocolate peanut butter and honey sandwich, nectarine
Dinner: shared a box of Lean Cuisine Fajita spring rolls with Jeremy
Snacks/desserts: lemon bar, peppermint bark ice cream bar, mudslide frozen yogurt
Beverages: Crystal Light, water

Today was definitely not a model day, food-wise. I woke up late and didn't really get a proper breakfast, so I was pretty hungry at work even after lunch. I got a lemon bar for $2.75 from Dilettante, one of the airport coffee shops. They have amazing lemon bars, and it has been months since I bought one. Jeremy got home after I did, and wanted to go to Yogurtland (after I had already eaten an ice cream bar, of course). We had a coupon and a rewards card bonus, and we had purchased a gift card from Raise for 10% off. So the total at Yogurtland was only $6.22 at least. We normally spend around 10$ for two of us at full price. Naturally I wasn't hungry after that, so I just had a few of Jeremy's spring rolls, and he ate the rest of the black beans and rice with them.

We stopped at QFC on the way home:

5 Lean Cuisines ($2.00 ea) $10.00
4 nectarines $2.98
7 bananas $2.47

Total $15.45 (minus the 3% discount from Raise the real amount spent was $14.99

Tomorrow I will be away from home the entire day. I have a dentist appointment at 8:00 am, and will go straight to work from there, then after work I have a CE ethics class in Wallingford until 10:15 pm. I made tuna salad and cut up some celery, and will make a PB sandwich tomorrow. I will also take some fruit, yogurt, a cookie and a protein bar. Hopefully that will hold me over through the day. Jeremy will fend for himself for dinner.

On a roll

We went grocery shopping on Sunday. I got up early and prepped some black beans in the crock pot. I woke Jeremy up and told him to get them out of the fridge and start the crock pot up when he got up. He forgot. Of course, I didn't find out until it was too late. So we made the beans yesterday, and had frozen stuff for dinner on Sunday.

Then yesterday I woke up late. 10 minutes after I normally leave for work, and I had a client right away. I was able to take a bus and get there on time, but had no time to eat breakfast or pack a lunch, so I had to buy both at QFC.

Jeremy also dropped his phone in the toilet, and used about 3 lbs of rice to dry it out, but on the plus side the phone still works.

What we ate 08-02-14

We planned on making a teriyaki fish stir fry yesterday, but Jeremy took the fish out of the fish out of the freezer too late, and it was still frozen solid when I got home. We decided to just boil a box of penne and add a jar of sauce. I find it's good to keep around something quick and easy for when your best laid plans fall through.

Breakfast: banana bread
Lunch: salad with spinach, radishes, black beans, and spicy lime peanut dressing, banana, nectarine
Dinner: penne with jarred four cheese pasta sauce
Snacks/desserts: salsa wheat thins, protein bar, Butterfinger ice cream
Beverages: Crystal Light, water
